Trawl nets, purse seine nets and aquaculture nets

Incorporating Dyneema® twines in fishing trawls, purse seine nets or fish-farming nets allows fishing operators to reduce drag, improve efficiency and increase the lifespan of the nets – with related benefits for the environment. The excellence of Dyneema® in this field has been proven, with Dyneema® twines used in the world’s largest midwater trawl net, Hampidjan's  Gloria trawl, which has a mouth opening of 35,800m2.

Minimal drag

The small diameter of Dyneema® twines and their weight-to-strength ratio means up to 40% less drag as the net is pulled through water or set against tidal currents. This allows fishing vessels either to increase their catch by trawling faster or using larger nets. With equal size nets fuel consumption is reduced significantly.

Durable nets

The resistance of nets made with Dyneema® to UV light, seawater, abrasion and cutting is second to none, guaranteeing that nets last longer. With low elongation at break (as little as 5%) and no shrinkage in water, the mesh size remains stable during normal use of the netting. Experience has shown that net panels made with Dyneema® can last up to three times longer than traditional materials.
