“DSM Hybrane developed advanced paper coating additive for Cargill”
Cargill Industrial Starches has signed an exclusive agreement with
specialty paper technology company Topchim, for Cargill to market an advanced
paper coating additive that the company brands as C*TopBrane. DSM Resins, who
commercialises this technology platform of hyperbranched polyesteramide
Hybrane®, carries out the manufacturing of C*TopBrane, which has been designed
uniquely for Cargill.
Applied together with C*Film TCF starches to film press coating colours,
C*TopBrane generates substantial savings for papermakers running at operating
speeds of 1,500-2,000 m/min, without creating the effect of misting. These
savings relate to further substitution of latex by starch, to achieving higher
machine speeds (up to 15% realized) and/or to the addition of higher coat
weights (up to +3 gram per side). As such the combination of C*Film TCF
starches and C*TopBrane is a natural and economic solution for papermakers to
cope with the increasing cost for coating recipes based on synthetic binder
formulations.
C*TopBrane is complementary to Cargill's portfolio of top-performing
starch-based paper coating solutions.
