Hybrane® - Performance of Hybrane®

The performance of Hybrane®
The structure and properties of specific Hybrane® molecules lead to materials with improved performance characteristics.

Examples of performance attributes that can be tailored are:

  • adhesion
  • rheology
  • interfacial behavior
  • biodegradability

Interfacial activity
The hyper branched polymers of Hybrane® are ideally suited for designing interfacial activity by combining different structural elements (polar, a-polar, specific anchor groups, ionic and nonionic surfactant groups).

In comparison to conventional linear (block) copolymers, the interfacial activity of hyper branched polymers is enhanced by a reduced loss of entropy upon adsorption at the interface. Like a spider or octopus, as opposed to a snake or eel, the star shaped Hybrane® molecule is able to touch one side of the interface with some legs of choice, leaving the other legs or the body free to interact with the other side.

The following presentation provides some more information regarding the interfacial activity of Hybrane®.
