With the White Biotechnology EBA DSM will further boost the application of nature’s toolset, for example micro-organisms and enzymes, to the production of (fine) chemicals, materials and fuels from renewable resources.

Growing costs
A growing cost spread between hydrocarbon and carbohydrate feedstock as well as advances in science and technology will allow White Biotechnology to become a competitive alternative in an increasing range of applications, including nutritional ingredients, fine chemicals, performance materials and base chemicals. 

Opportunities
DSM will focus on opportunities where White Biotechnology enables drastic process improvements compared to the chemical technologies.
