Applied Mathematics and Statistics: expertise description

We support the activities of both DSM Research and the DSM Business groups with our expertise of applied mathematics, statistics and chemometrics. Our activities cover a very wide range of subjects. Are you a chemist and looking for an efficient experimental program? Did you already think of ‘design of experiments’?
Are you a products developer and searching for an optimal recipe or the most important effects that influence the properties of your material? Maybe, you should consider an analysis of your experimental data by a statistical expert.
Are you in synthesis and puzzled by what’s going on in your chemistry? Maybe a simulation of (your idea of) the kinetics can help you further.
Did you develop a new material and you are not sure how to classify it within a framework of existing materials? A multivariate data analysis can help you with the classification.

Techniques and expertises

mathematical modelling, statistics and chemometrics, design of experiments
multivariate data analysis, regression methods ,nonlinear parameter fitting, statistical process control , simulation of reaction kinetics (including the information of molecular structure information), neural networks and genetic algorithms, software development

Applications and projects

Development of a computational tool for the simulation of the polymerisation and stability of branched nylon-6 applications (used by both research (synthesis) and Technical Support)
Simulation of the synthesis of branched and hyperbranched polymers to get insight to the molecular structure of the obtained polymer molecules (development of Mn, Mw, degree of branching, gel point)
S simulation of the washing of nylon-6 pellets to remove lactam and cyclic dimer (used in order to evaluate the performance of washing columns claimed by the contractors for a to be built nylon-6 plant)
Simulation of the homo polymerization of acrylates (aimed at determining kp and kf rate constants)
