Wire & cable jackets and firewall grommets
For decades elastomers have been used in cable jackets, and especially for
applications requiring flexibility. Cable jackets are generally subject to
stricter requirements concerning mechanical properties than cable insulation,
because the jackets often have to be resistant to wear, for instance in
trailing cables. Their dielectric properties, on the other hand, are less
critical than those for insulation. Other important properties are weather
resistance, ozone resistance, oil resistance, flame retardance and long term
aging resistance.
