Our scientific network

At DSM, we know that the best way for our R&D activities to break new ground is to leverage both internal and external knowledge networks. Internally, we achieve this through our global program and project and competence management, and by ensuring that the valuable knowledge of all of our people is recorded and readily available within the organization. By encouraging our staff to build up their personal academic networks and to pursue important part-time positions outside DSM, such as editorships of scientific journals, professorships, or membership of EC committees and scientific organizations, we are able to keep our fingers on the pulse of relevant developments.

R&D partners
DSM also works closely with some of the world’s most innovative R&D partners and exchanges scientific and technological knowledge with some 2,000 university departments. We participate in renowned research organizations and networks, such as Gene Alliance (Germany), the Biocatalysis & Bioprocessing of Macromolecules Consortium (USA), the Wageningen Center for Food Sciences and the Dutch Polymer Institute (The Netherlands).

DSM also regularly organizes relevant symposia, conferences and reguluarly provides speakers for such events. We focus on ensuring that promising students have a good insight into our activities and our R&D culture by regularly opening our doors to them in organized visits. For outstanding post-docs we have some in-house research projects available. Last but not least, DSM organizes the international Vaalsbroek Scientific Meetings several times a year and invites PhD students and professors to present their work to a wider DSM audience.
