External verification & recognition 2007

The VBDO (Dutch Association for Sustainable Investors) has awarded DSM a special mention for its sustainable Value Chain Management. The jury considered DSM's performance in sustainable value chain management as strongly improved - DSM achieved the biggest increase in points amongst all participants.

In the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index published on 6 September 2007 DSM was once again listed as one of the leaders in the chemical industry sector. In 2003 DSM was included in the Dow Jones STOXX sustainability index for Europe for the first time . In 2004, 2005 and 2006 DSM achieved a leadership position in both the European and the global index, and the company is again included in both indices in 2007/2008.

In April 2007 SIGHT AND LIFE’s unrelenting efforts in the fight against micronutrient malnutrition received global recognition through the Micronutrient Forum. This Forum is one of the world’s most influential organizations in the fight against micronutrient malnutrition.

In June 2007 the American Chemistry Council (ACC) jointly awarded the medium sized company Responsible Care Leadership Award 2007 to DSM and Arkema.

Responsible Care is a global chemical industry performance initiative that is implemented in the United States through the ACC. Responsible Care helps America’s leading chemical companies go above and beyond government requirements and openly communicate their results to the public.

In 2007 DSM earned 'best in class' status for its leading environmental and social performance and therefore qualifies for investment in Storebrand's SRI mandates. Storebrand is a leading Scandinavian financial services company. The company has a strong commitment to corporate responsibility, and it is considered to be a leading player within Socially Responsible Investment (SRI).

The Sustainability Report 2006 was reviewed by KPMG Sustainability and obtained an Assurance Report (PDF: 51 Kb).
