The United Nations Global Compact
, established in 1999 comprises 10 principles in total regarding human
rights, labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption. The Global Compact
is the world’s biggest network that businesses can commit to on a voluntary
basis.
Amongst other things DSM’s recent Triple P (Sustainability) Reports show how
DSM has acted and reported in accordance with the principles of the Global
Compact. The next logical step in becoming a member of the Global Compact has
therefore been taken. In this regard Feike Sijbesma, Chairman of the DSM
Managing Board, has requested membership of the Global Compact from the
Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon. Fokko Wientjes, DSM’s
sustainability manager is delighted “We are pleased to support the
United Nations by helping them to achieve some of their targets. Signing the
Global Compact and our partnership with the
UN World Food Programme are clear examples of this”.
