HR Principles

Besides good corporate citizenship and valuable partnerships, respect for people forms a cornerstone of the DSM values.

Openness, fairness and trust form the foundation on which employer-employee relations at DSM are based.

In order to anchor this, the following principles for Human Resource Management have been formulated:

  • We regard our employees as our most valuable asset for succeeding in our mission.
  • Respect for employees and employee integrity are the cornerstones of our HRM policies.
  • DSM intends to be an 'employer of choice' in the increasingly competitive labor market(s) in which we operate.
  • Our objective is to progressively develop a culture to reflect a company that is Responsive, Reliable, Capable and Empowered.
  • We create an atmosphere of candor and stimulate openness and accountability by involving people in our business objectives.
  • We are committed to invest in the knowledge and skills of our employees to ensure long-term employability. Personal development of our employees will be discussed on a regular basis.
  • DSM will encourage its employees to improve their own and their colleagues' performance. Performance of our employees will be discussed based upon an honest appraisal.
  • Coaching and mentoring is provided for growth and personal development.
  • At departmental level, employees regularly meet to discuss their day-to-day work.
  • DSM seeks to create an injury free environment in which our employees can work in safety and good health. We do not tolerate working under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
  • We value good industrial relations and engage in structural consultation with our employees.
  • DSM recognizes the right of its employees to organize themselves in order to protect their own interests.
  • Under no circumstances does DSM make use of child labor or forced labor.
