SHE Award 2008
The selection process showed five good nominees,
with the ACN site in Geleen (the Netherlands) of DSM Fibre Intermediates as
the clear winner, with a strong vision on SHE. Outstanding elements are:
excellent management of SHE behavior, learning from all incidents, the control
of the exposure of employees to hazardous chemicals, the initiatives on health
and all the other initiatives that have been taken to improve the reputation,
including communication with main stakeholders. The DSM Engineering Plastics
Stanyl plant in Geleen is the runner up, with a solid performance on all
subjects.
In addition, the jury wants to particularly mention the strong health risk
assessment shown by the RT&AG organization in Geleen.

The selection process showed 4
nominees: Two that have already for a been at a high level for a long time and
show a steady SHE performance, sometimes under very difficult circumstances
(DSM Melamine Bontang and DSM Resins Frankfort) and two nominees that have
improved their performance substantially in the last years (DSM
Anti-Infectives AMEA in Toansa and DSM Nutritional Products Premix
Asia-Pacific).
Because with the SHE improvement award the focus is on the realized
improvement in the last two years, DSM Anti-Infectives AMEA in Toansa (Punjab,
India) was chosen as the clear winner. On all three subjects (Safety, Health
and Environment) they showed the largest improvement.
