The cheque

In August 2003,  Alf Jönsson, the Managing Director of DSM Resins Scandinavia handed over the cheque of €10,000 to the representative of the Landskrona cultural department.

Tycho Brahes castle, Uraniborg

The dream of Lisbeth and Tony is that the astronomer Tycho Brahes’ castle Uraniborg (the planetarium) is to be rebuilt. This castle is situated on the island of Hven in the middle of Öresund, the stretch of water between Sweden and Denmark and was built around 1550 to 1601.

The dreamers are fortunate that their local cultural administration were running a project to build a visual/interactive exhibition to display the castle and the instruments that Tycho Brahe invented and worked with at his planetarium. Together with a EU-project team, a 3D-video is made where you can walk around the castle and experience the interior fittings and materials. The garden is also rebuilt and opened on June 1, 2003. In the garden, the exhebition, where a Danish artist made a lot of sculptures playing the part of people living in the Castle, was opened.

'It is fantastic that DSM will pay such great deal of attention to the culture and Tycho Brahe in this way", says Christin Nielsen, Head of the cultural section in Landskrona. "It is extremely unusual that we are offered sponsorship money and it is of considerable value that it is the employees at the Landskrona plant who have put it forward. One of our most important goal is that the inhabitants in Landskrona should be pride of its history and culture".

Island of Hven

The cultural administration has just bought the “new” church on the island and will restore its interior. The exhibition will open for the first time in Italy in the summer of 2004. After that the exhibition will be permanently on display in the church on the island of Hven.

Tycho Brahe

A Danish nobleman, Tycho Brahe (1546-1601), is a world-famous scientist. At the end of the 16th century his research on the island of Hven proved to be of vital importance for the model of our world picture. His foremost achievement in the sphere of science is in astronomy. On the Island of Hven he built the Castle Uraniborg as well as an observatory "Stjärneborg" (Star Fortress).

Goal of the project

The goal of this project is to spread knowledge about Tycho Brahes’ work through adult education classes. This education will make it possible to study different subjects such as astronomy, garden history, renaissance food and life on the island of Hven in the 16th century etc.
