  • October 2003 in Hoensbroek (the Netherlands)
  • Arnold Gratama van Andel (Corporate Finance & Economics)
Restoration of the paintings

14 Paintings were in such poor condition they could not be exhibited and were in storage, even though they have a high historical value. These paintings of a masked ball were made by Lippold in the 18th century during the last period when the castle was inhabited.

It was Arnold’s dream to restore these paintings and to exhibit them in the castle museum for visitors to enjoy.

On 31st October 2003 these restored paintings were revealed.

Baron and Baroness de Weichs de Wenne

Baron de Weichs de Wenne, owner of the portraits, loaned them on a long term basis to Hoensbroek Castle.

Hoensbroek Castle

Ave Rex Christe is the owner of Hoensbroek Castle. This castle is one of the oldest, largest and probably best-preserved castles in the Netherlands and is situated between the River Maas and the River Rhine. It provides an example of eclectic architecture: Medieval, Maasland Renaissance and Baroque.

The aim of Ave Rex Christe is to maintain the buildings and the inventory of the castle in good condition for future generations. In 2002 Ave Rex Christe celebrated its 75th anniversary.
