Clean and shape the bank of the Rhine

The Torch in Grenzach

Peter Schuler’s dream was to enable people walking along the Rhine promenade (the Rheinallee) to enjoy the view of the river Rhine and the opposite bank. To make this possible the Rheinallee had to be cleaned and upgraded by removing brushwood, cleaning the footpaths and placing some freshly painted benches. Moreover, access to the bank had to be improved.

On 8 October a group of motivated colleagues removed all the rubbish from the riverbank over a length of 7 kilometers. This could not have been done without the help of the Grenzach Fishery Society and the Life Aid Rescue Team.

The activity was part of a reshaping project which included transforming the bank into a more natural state, with improved value for the local population and the animals living in and around the river. The Torch contribution made it possible to use heavy machinery in the project.
