And the finalists are…
Five ideas are shortlisted for the finals. In these finals each inventor is invited to present their idea to our jury – made up of professional athletes and DSM scientists. Our judges selected four of the five finalists. The fifth finalist was chosen by you, via a Facebook vote.
The 5 finalists are:
Golf gloves by Daniel Hernly
Short description of the idea:
- A golf glove of Arnitel and Arnitel Eco;
- Sweat and weather resistant;
- Washable but long lasting and durable;
- Slip resistant grip with skin-feel like.
Why this is a great idea:
- Same grip under all conditions, both wet and dry;
- Secure grip, but give you the feeling you don’t even have a glove on.
Resistant patches for training from Geoff McCue
Short description of the idea:
- Brace/wraps with resistance patches applied to targeted areas of your body;
- Alternately, you can place them on apparel.
Why this is a great idea:
- This resistance trains specific muscles and joints and improves the athlete’s performance.
New generation shin-pads fir use in soccer by Alexander Xydas
Short description of the idea:
- Highly protective, comfortable and customizable shin-pads;
- Protects from even the highest impacts;
- Light weight design offers increased mobility and aids speed;
- Dual protection: both the front and the back of the leg are protected Muscle compression or joint support woven with variable fibers;
- Three layers offer flexible protection, skin fel and shock absorption.
Why this is a great idea: The notion and only that the payer has his most valuable asset, his legs, protected from the opponent, will give him/ her the confidence and focus on his technique and purpose, whether that is scoring a goal or stopping the attacker.
Socket for prosthetic leg by Sebastian Wolzak, Millie Clive-Smith & Seitaro Taniguchi
Short description of the idea:
- Liner of Arnitel eco for socket increasing the comfort and fit;
- Sweat decreasing;
- Keeping the leg dry;
- Adjusting better to physical changes of body (muscle extension during intense training/performance).
Why this is a great idea:
- Disabled athletes can train longer and increase performance due to the fact that they do not have to interrupt their training in order to clear their socket from a large amount of sweat. Sweat causes skin-irritations, decreases comfort and a tight fit of the socket.
CTRUS Soccer ball by Alberto Villareal
Short description of idea:
- Airless soccer ball and thus longer life span;
- With position detection system, making more accurate decisions;
- The bouncing principle is based on the mechanical properties of the materials and not on the air that’s inside the ball.
