How it works

Lactose-free products are ideal for healthy digestion, especially for lactose intolerant people. By clicking on the animation you can discover:

  • why lactose-free products are easier to digest than regular dairy products
  • how digestion and lactose intolerance work
  • how to help your customers

Those who are lactose intolerant can now consume real dairy products by making a choice for lactose-free dairy foods treated with lactase.

Lactose

Lactose is a milk sugar that is naturally present in dairy products. It is the primary energy source for babies. Lactose is converted into glucose and galactose by the enzyme lactase. This enzyme is naturally present in the human intestine. When consuming dairy products, most people in the world cannot convert all lactose present, due to insufficient lactase activity. Lactase can be used to “predigest” lactose in these products.
