Better food quality

It is well known that egg is a healthy and wholesome food. Eggs are the best source of protein for humans and can be made extra nutritious by using OVN® in the bird diet. This additional OVN® claim is supported by scientific evidence showing that eggs from animals reared with OVN® offer enhanced nutritional value and provide better food quality for consumers.

Enhanced nutritional value
An investigation carried out with laying hens (PDF: Kb 371) showed that the meat of birds fed on a diet containing an optimum level of vitamins has a higher quantity of some nutrients such as vitamins A, E, B1, B2, B12, Folic Acid, Biotin and Pantothenic Acid. Such food can be considered to have a more balanced nutritional value.

Better food quality
Optimum vitamin nutrition of farm animals directly affects the quality of food of animal origin. Lipid oxidation, for example, can produce undesirable smells and flavours associated with rancidification..

Feeding animals a diet rich in unsaturated vegetable fats can considerably increase levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats in meat. A series of polyunsaturated fatty acids exists which react with molecular oxygen until they are finally degraded into undesirable compounds with short chains which cause a deterioration of the egg's organoleptic characteristics.

Feeding animals on diets with high levels of vitamin E can counteract this effect and thus improve the final quality of the egg by protecting the egg’s lipids from oxidation and reducing the formation of undesirable smells and flavours.
