This capability has recently been extended to a new area, based on the formation of the The Maastricht Forensic Institute (TMFI) - the forensic area. In the past a typical question was “What is the unwanted black particle in the white polymer film, and where does it come from?” That has now turned into “What is the trace material found at a crime scene and does it relate to a suspected source?” Both questions require a similar analytical approach and analytical toolbox.
