DSM signs agreement with InnoSportNL to promote innovation in sports

At the 2009 Congress on Sports, Science and Technology that is being held in Eindhoven (Netherlands) today, DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, and InnoSportNL will sign an agreement to promote innovation in sports. The agreement will create new opportunities for further developing the sports sector as a DSM market.

Market-driven innovation is one of the main pillars of DSM’s strategy. DSM’s products find application in a wide variety of end-markets, including the sports world, where ongoing developments and improvements in nutrition and advanced materials can make a significant contribution to athletes’ performance. DSM has therefore opted to play an active role in top-level sports and has been “Innovation Partner in Sports” of the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) since 2001.

The partnership with InnoSportNL is DSM’s next step in the development of products and innovations in the field of sports. The partnership will give DSM access to information about market needs as well as leads for new projects, not just for top-level sports but also for the recreational sports sector.

InnoSportNL is increasingly making a name for itself as a prominent player in the Dutch sports innovation landscape, among other things through its establishment of InnoSportLabs and the National Sports Innovation Agenda. In addition, it aims to engage stakeholders from the sports community, knowledge institutes and industry in joint projects.

Rob van Leen, Chief Innovation Officer at DSM: “This partnership will generate interesting new opportunities for the development of sports innovations, especially in the recreational sports segment, which is commercially attractive. As such, it is a valuable complement to our partnership with NOC*NSF.” George de Jong, director of InnoSportNL: “DSM’s competences in the field of functional nutritional ingredients and advanced materials offer an excellent basis for innovations in sports. We are very happy to be teaming up with DSM in developing innovations for the Dutch sports community.”
