News 2010Marleen Veldhuis wins in Aachen October 23, 2010 – Marleen Veldhuis, member of the DSM Sports Team, competed in the International Swimming Festival in Aachen, Germany. In her first race since giving birth to daughter Hannah, Marleen won both the 50 meters Butterfly and 50 meters Freestyle. Success for Sharon Walraven at the US Open September 13 2010 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the Women’s Doubles in wheelchair tennis at the US Open. Together with her partner Esther Vergeer, Sharon won 6-3, 6-3 against Daniela di Toro and Anniek van Koot.
Because of this result, her victory at the Tappe Open in Salzburg in August, and other big wins such as Wimbledon and the French Open earlier this year, Sharon is now no.1 in Women’s Doubles on the ITF Ranking. This is a unique achievement in her career. Cervélo TestTeam will cease to exist as per 31 December 2010 August 27, 2010 - The Cervélo TestTeam, a partner of DSM’s sport innovation program, has announced that it will stop all activities as per 31 December 2010. Although this means our partnership with the cycling team will end, we will continue to look for innovations in cycling and build on the partnerships and opportunities provided to us through Cervélo and our other partners. Wimbledon victory for Sharon Walraven July 5, 2010 – Another unique experience for Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, as she won her first title at Wimbledon. Together with partner Esther Vergeer, Walraven was victorious on the famous courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, beating Australia’s Daniela di Toro and Britain’s Lucy Shuker 6-2 and 6-3 to claim the wheelchair doubles title. The Wimbledon tournament is part of the Grand Slam Series of the ITF NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour. Sharon Walraven wins French Open June 28, 2010 – For the first time in her career, Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the French Open. At the ITF Super Series tournament final in Paris, Walraven beat Australia’s Daniela Di Toro, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. This is Sharon’s third win on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour in 2010, and the second Super Series title of her career.
Sharon Walraven wins both finals in Atlanta June 21, 2010 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, justified her top seed status at the ITF 1 NEC Wheelchair Tennis tournament in Atlanta (USA) by winning both the Singles and Doubles finals. After winning the Doubles tournament with Mackenzie Soldan, the two partners faced each other in the Singles finals, with Sharon winning by 6-1, 6-3. First Tournament Win for Sharon Walraven in 2010 May 31, 2010 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the ITF 1 NEC Wheelchair Tennis tournament in Daegu (South Korea). After losing two tournament finals in the previous two weeks, top seed Sharon was too strong for second seed Ju-Yeon Park, 6-2 and 6-4, making it her first tournament win in 2010.
Skin suit made with Dyneema® makes Olympic speed skating debut 13 February 2010 - Hot on the heels of the official opening ceremony of the XXI Olympic Winter Games comes the start of the speed skating tournament. The Dutch Olympic short-track team will be wearing a new and innovative CRAFT one layer skin suit, made with Dyneema®, which is lighter and more comfortable due to intrinsic cooling properties than comparable alternatives, whilst offering for the first time, full body protection. Previously, Olympic athletes wore two layer skin suits – an under layer for protection purposes and a surface layer for aesthetic appearance. DSM has developed this one layer full body protection skin suit in cooperation with the Royal Dutch Skating Association.
Topbob officially presented to team captain of Dutch Olympic Team 29 January 2010 – the brand new bobsleigh of TeamNL was presented to Team Captain Henk Gemser today, in the presence of a large media turnout in the Netherlands. During the press conference, Edwin Hendriks of DSM Composite Resins, third from the left in the picture, explained DSM’s contribution to the development of this unique bobsleigh. The sleigh is made from turane resins, a DSM development, that has considerably improved the rigidity, handling and strength of the bobsleigh.
Sixth place at the European Championships January 24, 2010 - The European Championships were held last weekend on the Olympic bobsled track in Igls (Innsbruck). Edwin van Calker and Sybren Jansma, the driver and braker of the sled, respectively, came in sixth place. This was a good result given the standard of the other competitors, and was all the more incredible given Edwin's admission that he made too many errors in the first run. A terrific fourth place result was instrumental in achieving the final sixth place result.
Qualifying with a new sled January 17, 2010 – The two-man and four-man bobsled teams both qualified for the Olympic Games. The solid performances given by the four-man team throughout the season were reflected in the achievement of sixth place at the World Cup in Lake Placid. The new two-man bob, which is now considerably faster, helped the team to move from their top 20 position to a place in the top 10 at the start of this year. The team's growing success shows no signs of coming to an end, as was highlighted by their win at the European Cup in St. Moritz in January. The Dutch bobsled teams are now regarded as having an outside chance. |
