News 2011Start of the 2011 World Solar Challenge October 16, 2011 – The 2011 World Solar Challenge has started, and that means the Nuon Solar Team and their car Nuna6 are on their way from Darwin to Adelaide. DSM at the 2011 World Solar Challenge October 12, 2011 - Only a few days remain before the start of the 2011 World Solar Challenge in Darwin, Australia. The Nuon Solar Team is ready to get going; their goal is to win the race by making sure that the Nuna6 is the first car to cross the finish-line in Adelaide. This means racing 3,000km across the Australian Outback!
Sharon Walraven wins US Open September 11, 2011 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the Women’s Doubles at the US Open. Together with Esther Vergeer she defeated Aniek van Koot en Jiske Griffioen in another close final, 7-5, 6-7 and 6-4.
DSM becomes partner of the Dutch Rowing Association September 2, 2011 - Ahead of the London 2012 Olympics DSM has become Innovation partner of the Dutch Rowing Association (KNRB) and sponsor of the Dutch Women's team. Together with the athletes and coaches DSM will look to use its knowledge of health, nutrition and materials to develop innovative products which can help to improve the performance of the Dutch rowing teams. Nuna6 demonstration at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam August 11, 2011 – The Nuna6 solar car provided a demonstration by racing against its predecessor Nuna5. By using innovative materials from DSM, the team was able to once again improve the performance of the car. This became very clear during the demonstration when the Nuna6 passed its predecessor, proving that it is ready for the World Solar Challenge in October.
Marleen Veldhuis wins bronze at 50M freestyle July 31, 2011 – During the 2011 FINA World Championships Swimming in Shanghai, Marleen Veldhuis, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won a bronze medal at the 50M freestyle. After winning gold with the Dutch team during the Women’s 4x100M relay earlier, Veldhuis finished 3rd, behind winner Therese Alshammar from Sweden and Ranomi Kromowidjojo from the Netherlands. One year to go until London 2012 Olympics July 27, 2011 – The London 2012 Olympics will kick off in one year with a spectacular Opening Ceremony, followed by 16 days filled with sports. This memorable occasion was marked with an event at Trafalgar Square, which included the unveiling of the design for the London 2012 medals. As Innovation Partner of the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF), DSM will once again support the Olympic athletes with innovations in nutrition and materials. Garmin – Cervélo wins Team Classification in Tour de France July 24, 2011 – The 98th edition of the Tour de France ended with the final stage to Paris, including the traditional finish at the Champs-Élyseés. For Garmin – Cervélo, with whom DSM has an innovation partnership, the 3,430 KM long race has been a success. In addition to winning 4 stages and holding the yellow jersey for 7 days, Garmin – Cervélo also won the Team Classification.
Marleen Veldhuis World Champion July 24, 2011 – Marleen Veldhuis, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won a gold medal at the 2011 FINA World Championships Swimming in Shanghai. Together with Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Inge Dekker and Femke Heemskerk, Marleen won the Women’s 4x100M Freestyle Relay. After an exciting race, the Dutch team finished ahead of the United States and Germany.
Photo by Hans Verlinden. Introduction of Volans² Rowing Boat July 23, 2011 – During the FISA World Championships Rowing under 23 in Amsterdam, DSM and Volans Rowing introduced a new rowing boat. The Volans² aims at making the sport of rowing more accessible to the general public, a goal which is fully supported by the Dutch Rowing Association (KNRB). DSM contributed to the development of the boat with innovative technology and expertise. For more information read this.
Nuna6 wind tunnel test July 21, 2011 – The aerodynamics of the Nuna6 solar car were tested in a wind tunnel, and the initial feedback is positive. Thanks to improvements in the shape of the car, made possible by innovative materials from DSM, the Nuna6 appears to have 10% less drag compared to Nuna5. In comparison, the overall drag of the Nuna6 solar car is about as much as that of a side mirror of a truck while driving at 100 km/h. Read more information about the Nuna6 here.
Sharon Walraven wins Wimbledon July 3, 2011 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the Women’s Doubles at Wimbledon. After another close game with Jiske Griffioen and Anniek van Koot, Sharon and Esther Vergeer successfully defended their title and were crowned champions. Sharon Walraven wins Roland Garros June 19, 2011 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, has won the Women’s Doubles at Roland Garros. Together with Ester Vergeer she played an exciting match against Jiske Griffioen and Anniek van Koot, winning the third and final set in a tiebreak. Sharon Walraven wins the World Team Cup 2011 May 1, 2011 – Sharon Walraven, member of the DSM Sports Team, and the Dutch Wheelchair tennis team have won the World Team Cup 2011. In Pretoria, South Africa, both the Dutch men and women were victorious and clinched a memorable win. DSM becomes partner of Garmin - Cervélo April 18, 2011 – DSM has become an innovation partner of the professional cycling team Garmin – Cervélo, with world-class riders such as Thor Hushovd and Tyler Farrar.
