USA VolleyballDSM became official partner of USA Volleyball in May of 2008. The partnership covers the US national men’s and women’s indoor and beach volleyball teams that participated in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Both the indoor and beach volleyball teams can boast excellent performances at the 2008 Beijing Games. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh claimed gold in the women's beach volleyball competition, while Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser completed the US sweep of the beach volleyball tournament by winning the men's competition. In the indoor volleyball tournament there was another golden moment for US Volleyball as the men’s team won their finals match by beating Brazil in four sets. In the women’s competition, the US team claimed silver in their final against Brazil, securing their first Olympic medal since 1992. The United States is the first country to win medals in all four Olympic volleyball events, winning three of the four gold medals available. (see press release) Volleyball is the second largest participation sport in the world, with more than 800 million participants worldwide. Introduced as an Olympic sport in 1964, with beach volleyball added in 1996, volleyball’s popularity has grown rapidly in the past decade. This rapid growth and innovative spirit mirror the growth and innovation of DSM, making USA Volleyball and DSM perfect partners in the promotion of volleyball and healthy living. |
