What is tensVida™?

tensVida™ is a naturally occurring ingredient which has been specifically developed for people who want to control their blood pressure to maintain a healthy heart while following a healthy diet and lifestyle.

tensVida™ consists of dairy peptides, which are clinically proven to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels. Dairy peptides are small peptides that are formed when milk protein is broken down into smaller pieces. The milk protein is broken down using enzymes.

What is the active substance in tensVida™?

The active peptide in tensVida™ responsible for the blood pressure lowering effect is the so-called ‘lactotripeptide’ Isoleucine-Proline-Proline (IPP).

While lactotripeptides are present in normal dairy products, they are inactive within the original milk protein. To become effective, these peptides first need to be released by breaking them down with enzymes.

How does tensVida™work?

tensVida™ supports the natural processes of the body by relaxing and expanding (dilating) blood vessels, which in turn helps to keep blood pressure within a healthy range.

Is tensVida™ safe?

Active peptides are already consumed as part of a person’s daily diet. Nevertheless, toxicological studies have been conducted by DSM, confirming the safety of tensVida™. No adverse events were reported in clinical studies containing lactotripeptides.

Can dairy peptides reduce blood pressure too much?

No, this is not possible. Scientific studies found no effect on blood pressure in people whose blood pressure was normal.

Is there a risk for lactose intolerant consumers?

No. tensVida™ is suitable for lactose intolerant people.

Is tensVida™ a natural alternative to anti-hypertensive medication?

No. If medication to lower blood pressure is already being taken, a doctor must be consulted before tensVida™ is used. tensVida™ can be consumed as part of a healthy, blood pressure lowering diet and lifestyle.

What products can tensVida™ be used in?

tensVida™ can easily be incorporated in a wide variety of products which fit into a healthy diet. Due to its unique clean taste and highly concentrated convenient form, tensVida™ opens the market for dietary supplements and great tasting food products, such as functional waters, fruit juices, UHT milk, dairy drinks, yogurts and bars. Our Food Innovation Centre is continuously working on expanding the range of applications with addition of tensVida™ .

What about health claims?

tensVida™ is the first ingredient of its kind in the marketplace – the first to offer a way to manage blood pressure. This gives manufacturers an opportunity for strong product positioning. DSM’s extensive research provides the clinical evidence* to underpin marketing strategies.

Whilst the clinical data supporting the action of tensVida™ is proven, the wording of all claims should make clear that tensVida™ is not intended to diagnose, prevent, mitigate, treat or cure a specific disease. We will work with you to ensure all health claims are appropriate and approved for local markets.
