DSM in Electrical & Electronics

Delivering the (white) goods

Without doubt the key for connectors in the white goods industry is safety and the specific capability of components like glow-wire ignition temperature to meet strict regulations. We’re also seeing a new trend for halogen free products - which will mean better materials…

Thanks to its good balance of heat resistance, electrical performance and glow wire ignition capability, our ForTii® is increasingly being recognized as the ideal solution for tightly regulated SMT white goods connectors.

In addition to safety, we’re also the prime mover in the field of RAST connectors. Until recently they were exclusive to Europe, but increasingly these multi-faceted connectors are now being introduced in other major markets.

At DSM we’re the first supplier to offer a solution for the SMT RAST connector – offering a broad range of properties from good dimensional stability to good strength, to outstanding electrical properties to a robust UL 94 V-0 flammability rating.

Unattended domestic appliances: STOCKO chooses DSM

When STOCKO Contact - one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of electro-mechanical components - introduced a SMT RAST connector for use in domestic appliance engineering, it chose ForTii.

Two series of pin connectors were designed, mainly for use in unattended domestic appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and cookers – and all falling into the IEC 60335-1 norm.

STOCKO chose the DSM solution based on its reflow soldering ability (better than PPA), very high pin retention values (better than LCPs), stable and fast processing, very good electrical properties (CTI 600V), low moisture uptake and proven lower corrosion on molding equipment compared with competitive products

What’s more, the halogen-free V-0 material passed the Glow Wire Test on end products (IEC 60335-1).
