DSM in Food, Beverages & Dietary Supplements

ALL-Q™

We offer two forms of ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) to release the full energy of CoQ10 for food supplements and fortification and to match the highly varied needs of the human nutrition and pharmaceutical sectors.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a natural, vitamin-like substance found in our cells, and essential for energy production. This unique substance is involved in almost every process in the human body from general metabolism to muscle, heart and brain activity. It’s also a powerful cellular antioxidant.

CoQ10 is a fat-soluble compound that can be synthesized by the human body. It’s a member of the ‘ubiquinone’ family (the name signifying the ubiquitous presence of these compounds in living organisms).

CoQ10 is primarily found in the energy-producing center of the cell known as the ‘mitochondria’. Therefore, the organs with the highest energy requirements, such as the heart and the liver, have the highest CoQ10 concentrations.

Without CoQ10 our organs simply wouldn’t function properly. However, the levels of CoQ10 in our body start to decline from about the age of 20.

Hence the need for supplementation…

Key benefits of Coenzyme Q10

A sufficient intake of CoQ10 (ubiquinone) is important as there is evidence to suggest it may help the body:

  • Convert energy from carbohydrates and fats to the form of energy used by the cells
  • Protect as an ‘antioxidant’ against the damaging effects of free radicals
  • Aid metabolism for energy supply and physical activity
  • Age better: CoQ10 is an anti-aging and antioxidant; a potent intracellular antioxidant and free radical scavenger
  • Prevent heart diseases and hypertension: CoQ10 has been used to treat various cardiovascular diseases for many years
  • Support brain health, possibly by inhibiting oxidative stress
  • Treat gingivitis; Studies have linked gingivitis with CoQ10 deficiency.

Applications

Lipohilic substances like CoQ10 need to be dispersed in tiny particles in order to be readily absorbed by the body (bioavailability) and eventually provide their health benefits. Normal crystalline CoQ10 is not readily absorbed by the body.

Therefore DSM offers two forms of ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) to release the full energy of CoQ10 for food supplements and fortification and to match the highly varied needs of the human nutrition and pharmaceutical sectors.

ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) uses the unique Actilease beadlet technology to encapsulate and stabilize micro-sized droplets of CoQ10 in a water-soluble shell, thus greatly enhancing its stability, absorption and subsequent bioavailability. Actilease improves the stability and bioavailability of the CoQ10. The Actilease beadlet contains micro-particles of the active ingredients encapsulated and stabilized in a protective matrix.

ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) really delivers the benefits of CoQ10 by guaranteeing superior handling properties plus excellent flowability, no dust and excellent dispersability.

The excellent performance continues in applications with lower overages resulting in smaller tablets. It’s cold water soluble for food and beverage applications and effervescents – which provides excellent stability in all applications. The bioavailability is improved compared to crystalline CoQ10. The Actilease technology allows ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) to be used in various applications including soft drinks, flavored water, yoghurt, cereal bars and tablets.

Both ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) formulations stand for superior performance:

  • ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) 10% CWS/S: Formulation containing 10% CoQ10 for food, beverage and tablet applications
  • ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) 10% TG/P: Formulation containing 10% CoQ10 for capsule and tablet applications.

These formulations are easy-to-use, have excellent flowability, and are non-dusting with low extrusion loss. They show high stability in tablets with consistent tablet characteristics. They are strong enough to withstand the pressure of tabletting and are able to fully release CoQ10 in the body. This is the first CoQ10 to work effectively in tablets with the highest bioavailability.

ALL-Q™ (CoQ10) forms only use natural-fermentation produced CoQ10.

RDA

Health authorities haven’t yet established specific dietary intake recommendations for CoQ10. Some researchers suggest daily doses of 30–200 mg CoQ10 for adults 19 years and older.

As CoQ10 is fat-soluble, it should be taken with a meal containing fat for best absorption. The average daily intake of CoQ10 from food is estimated to be around 10 mg in several European countries.

Safety

Supplementation with CoQ10 has been shown to be safe and beneficial for cardiovascular health, anti-aging and skin health. Supplementation with CoQ10 may also have the potential to enhance physical performance.

To date, there have been no reports of significant adverse side effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation at doses as high as 1,200 mg/day.
