Great looks for longer; Resins for decorative coatings
Decking and sidings are exposed to everything the elements have to throw at them, all year round. Coating formulators know that our resins offer them the ability to develop waterborne stains with the peace of mind that the substrate is protected for years to come, and looks great too.
Apart from the elements, decking in particular needs to be strong to protect it from the foot traffic that causes wear and tear. Our resins are used in exterior stains including two-segment deck stains that are applied horizontally and siding/fence stains that are applied vertically. Typically these coatings are applied directly to the substrate using a one-coat or two-coat (self-priming) system. We offer a range of resins suitable for:
- Coating resins for clear stains
- Resins for natural coating stains
- Coating resins for toned stains
- Coating resins for semi-transparent stains
As well as resins for semi-solid and solid coating stains.
By using DSM resins the coating formulator can develop coatings for both interior and exterior topcoats and enamels, these meet all legislative needs without sacrificing performance. Ever lowering amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are key to improved indoor air quality and reducing health risks.
We want our living spaces to look good for longer and with such a wide range of surfaces to be coated including wood, composite, plastic or metal it is important that we develop resins that give the coating formulator the widest scope for creating coatings that will meet the demands of our modern lifestyles. To achieve the best performance substrates are coated with a primer, followed by a coloured topcoat. For topcoats and enamels our water based binders with reduced demand for volatile organic compounds (VOC) offer equal or better performance properties against solvent based whilst improving air quality and reducing health risks.
Many painting jobs start with a primer. Coatings incorporating our resins help professionals and consumers prepare the substrate while offering short drying times with excellent stain resistance and adhesion properties.
A good primer needs to offer both functional and mechanical adhesion to a given substrate. The key building block for a good primer is the resin and for these binders we pay special attention to ensure any coatings formulated on these anchor the topcoat to the surface and so minimizes substrate imperfections. We offer waterborne resin systems for functional primers that are helping coating manufacturers support their customers as they move from solvent-based products to waterborne alternatives without compromising on quality. These waterborne primers offer excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates with stain-resistance and long term protection. By selecting a good resin the coating formulator can develop primers that extend the life of the total paint system and ensure it lasts a long time.
Alkyd/acrylic hybrid designed for excellent penetration into wood substrates for outstanding protection. Long life durability due to alkyd penetration and acrylic functionalized adhesion.
Medium oil alkyd emulsion with very high gloss potential for multiple applications. Ecolabel compliant with a high content of renewable raw materials. Excellent dry properties make this product suitable for fast drying decorative and protective primers and enamels.
High performance urethane modified waterborne alkyd, with exceptional early resistance properties and rapid hardness development. Wide adhesion latitude for diverse coating applications, including high gloss capability with high transparency. Designed to crosslink to a tough film with excellent blocking and durability to repel dirt.
Water based self-crosslinking aliphatic urethane acrylic copolymer, with a superb performance in early chemical resistance and scratch resistance combined with good open time properties.
Acrylic emulsion designed use in primers that require good isolation of nicotine, markers and stains. Exhibits good stain locking on tropical and other tannin rich woods by locking in water resoluble wood ingredients. No specific active pigments like zinc oxide are necessary for stain locking performance.
Unique waterborne acid soluble acrylic binder is a 1K system for primer application that permanently locks wood ingredients and tannins with good knot insulation. Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
High performance urethane modified waterborne alkyd that rapidly develops hardness and resistance properties. It is ideal for use in varnishes that provide good wood warmth.
Urethane acrylic copolymer with excellent chemical, solvent and stain resistance. Its unique high solids provide excellent film build in few coats making it suitable for use in water white clear varnishes.
