Police vehicles

In the course of their duties, police forces are increasingly faced with armed criminals. Armoring patrol cars with Dyneema® UD panels allows the police to tackle crime without having to risk their lives. In the Netherlands, the police have been using panels made with Dyneema® since 1993, with countries such as Belgium, Luxemburg and Norway following their lead.

Panels made with Dyneema® offer protection against the full range of ammunition defined in European Standard EN1522-1, from commonly used handgun ammunition such as Magnum bullets to 9mm Full Metal Jacket bullets.

Armor panels made with Dyneema® are considerably lighter than conventional steel armor, weighing less than 5kg/m2: using armor made with Dyneema® in a door adds only 1.5kg to a small vehicle or 2kg to a full-size car, such as a Mercedes.

The light weight and slimness of the panels make installing amor made with Dyneema® extremely easy: no adjustments are necessary to the door hinges, and the panels are so discreet that they cannot be detected by eye.

Whenever a police car armored with Dyneema® needs to be replaced, the panels can easily be removed without damaging the vehicle, and can then be reused. Since the car has not had to be adapted in order to carry the armor, it requires no conversion for civilian use.
