Akulon: Good for consumer goods
Fuel tank systems
Akulon Fuel Lock is our family of cost-competitive thermoplastics that reduce evaporative emissions from small engine fuel tanks by more than 99%. This far exceeds the regulations set out by both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The bottom line: Small engine tanks that prevent the release of 250 million tons of hydrocarbons into the Earth’s atmosphere.
For years our reinforced Akulon grades have been used in crankhouses because of their ability to retain their strength, shape and stiffness at both extreme ends of the temperature scale.
When used for covers and housings Akulon reduces weight while maintaining toughness and durability – able to withstand a drop test at -30 degrees. Just as important are its excellent surface characteristics – it holds paint very well and looks good.
For engine covers our Akulon Ultraflow grade offers an 80% improved flow and 40% reduction in injection molding cycle times versus regular Polyamide 6 grades. Furthermore, this same material provides a superior finish to reinforced nylon components– ideal for engine covers in products like mowers and snowmobiles where users take great pride in their appearance.
Akulon is also ideal for trimmer lines, as well as cab interiors of tractors and harvesters.
