Bright Science. Brighter Living.™
With annual net sales of around €10 billion and approximately 25,000 employees worldwide, we’re a solar partner you can trust.
Our expertise in materials sciences is what helps us produce many of the engineering thermoplastics, resins, high performance fibers and coatings that appear in products essential to our everyday lives – from cars to electronics to packaging to construction.
With major R&TD centers in both Europe and Asia staffed by some of the brightest minds in the industry, we benefit from the huge wellspring of knowledge and expertise already inside DSM – and apply it to fast-growing industries like solar.
For example, polyamides have been used by our customers for many years in tough, outdoor applications like tubes and pipes in the oil industry. We applied our know-how in polyamides to make our Endurance backsheets sustainable and durable.
Sustainable materials solutions
The principles of sustainability run through everything we do at DSM. We exist to create brighter lives for people today and generations to come. That means creating material solutions that not only benefit people and profit, but are also kinder to the planet: We call them Brighter Living Solutions, and in solar this includes all the major offerings in our portfolio.
For the last 10 years DSM has consistently been at (or very near to) the top of the Dow Sustainability Index; while the Corporate Knights Global 100 Sustainability Index continues to rank us highest among the materials science companies.
Nurturing a new generation in solar
In addition to the materials expertise we already bring to solar, we’re also nurturing a new generation of innovation in this field by establishing, for example, the Bright Minds Challenge – a global competition to highlight the most exciting new science (and scientists) in the field.
In a similar vein, we’re also a keen participant in the SunRISE Challenge, which offers start-ups a unique opportunity to fast-track their business and benefit from the expertise of both DSM and its partners, including Greentown Labs and Fraunhofer CSE. In the past two years some 100 start-ups have been identified.
