By Michael McBurney

The Natural Products Expo/Engredea is being held March 11-13, 2016 in Anaheim CA. In fulfilling our goal of bringing nutrition and health to more people, DSM Nutritional Products will be offering two educational sessions on Friday, March 11.

Start the day with breakfast and an entire buffet of information on Omega-3 fatty acids. The session, The Omega-3 Paradox – Essential for Health yet Deficient in the Diet, will begin at 8:30am in the Platinum Ballroom 2 of the Anaheim Marriott. The first speaker, Dr Bruce Holub, University Professor Emeritus at the University of Guelph will introduce attendees to the important role the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), play throughout the lifespan.

The second speaker, Adam Ismail, Executive Director of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED), will share insights on the global consumer spending on products containing EPA and DHA. He will provide an indepth examination of consumer needs throughout the lifespan and messages that compel us to take action.

Wrap up the day learning about the future of nutrition assessment with mobile devices at 3:30pm in Platinum Ballroom 1 of the Anaheim Marriott. Dr Sonia Hartunian-Sowa, Scientific Leader at DSM Nutritional Products, will review the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies and the benefits which could be derived from minimally-invasive, mobile assessment tools. The second speaker, Dr David Erickson, Associate Professor, Cornell University will review the advances being made by a multidisciplinary team spanning Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, and Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University on smartphone based mobile health.
