DSM’s Fruitflow® receives top industry accolade at FiSA 2012

DSM’s heart healthy ingredient Fruitflow® was named one of the most innovative products of the year at the prestigious Food Ingredients South America awards 2012. The coveted accolade is the latest in a long line of awards – the ingredient also emerged triumphant in the ‘most innovative ingredient’ and ‘most innovative heart health ingredient’ categories at the Health Ingredients Europe Awards 2010.

Fruitflow works in synergy with the body to prevent blood platelet aggregation, a ‘stickiness’ or ‘spikiness’ of the blood platelets which can lead to blood clots. A natural and safe ingredient, Fruitflow does not disrupt the blood clotting process required following injury. Published clinical studies have demonstrated that Fruitflow reduces platelet aggregation in 97 per cent of individuals within 1.5 hours of consumption and its beneficial effect lasts up to eighteen hours. No side-effects, allergenic reactions or incompatibility with other medication have been reported following its prolonged use in ten clinical studies.

“We are delighted to have won another top industry award for Fruitflow and are excited about communicating the result to our customers,” comments Wouter Nieboer, Global Marketing Manager for Fruitflow at DSM Nutritional Products. “The FiSA award serves to validate what we already knew to be true – that Fruitflow is a truly innovative ingredient that can add real value to our customers’ businesses.”

The science behind Fruitflow has been validated by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The ingredient was the first to be awarded a positive opinion under article 13(5). The positive opinion was converted to a fully authorized EU health claim in May 2012.
