DSM’s nutritional solutions for the entire value chain at Vitafoods 2013

DSM is highlighting its complete nutrition solutions for every step of the value chain, from active ingredients and delivery systems to customized blends and retail-ready product concepts. The exhibition will see the launch of a number of additions to DSM’s broad nutrition and health portfolio, including new ingredients to enhance and complement its existing heart and eye health solutions.

Products to be launched at Vitafoods 2013 include OatWell®, a market-leading brand of oat beta glucan that DSM has recently acquired from CreaNutrition, following an agreement with Swedish Oat Fiber. Oat beta glucan has clinically proven health benefits in the areas of cholesterol reduction, blood glucose control and general gastrointestinal health. The European Commission has approved several Article 13 and 14 health claims for the use of beta glucans for cholesterol reduction and the associated reduced risk of developing heart disease, as well as for digestive health and blood glucose control.

Following recent novel food approval, DSM is also bringing OPTISHARP® nature-identical zeaxanthin to dietary supplement marketeers in the EU-member state market for the first time. Eye health professionals acknowledge the positive effect that zeaxanthin has on eye health and several scientific peer reviewed studies demonstrate the antioxidant role of zeaxanthin in the retina and the lens. OPTISHARP is being used at 2mg dose/day, in combination with DSM’s FloraGlo® lutein, in the ongoing Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS 2), sponsored by the United States National Eye Institute, the results of which are expected later this year.
