DSM to exhibit innovations at GIE+EXPO
Unprecedented levels of global competition are forcing OPE manufacturers to look for every opportunity to reduce costs while improving durability and sustainability. DSM materials like Stanyl® polyamide 46 deliver excellent stiffness at elevated temperatures, superior fatigue endurance, and outstanding wear resistance, making them ideally suited to deliver quiet, clean, and cost-effective solutions.
DSM developed Akulon® Fuel Lock polyamide 6 as a superior alternative to fluorinated HDPE in low-permeation fuel tanks. Akulon Fuel Lock provides excellent inherent permeation resistance (no post-molding treatment of the tanks is required) and allows for production of tanks with thinner walls, reducing system costs. With Akulon Fuel Lock, it is possible to achieve permeation rates (in tanks with a minimum wall thickness of 1.2 mm) that are less than 5% of the maximum value of 2.0 g/m2/day allowed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) under its latest test rules. These are the toughest in the world, and are likely to be used as guidelines by legislators in other countries in the future.
