Gleistein Ropes supplies running rigging made with Dyneema® to the Neutrogena Sailing Team in the Barcelona World Race
The sponsorship agreement between the Neutrogena Sailing Team and Gleistein Ropes, which was originally announced in 2014, brings together leaders in their respective fields. Rigging with the highest performance levels and extreme reliability was required to meet the extreme demands of the Barcelona World Race – in which the yacht and crew are exposed to the harshest of conditions including gale force winds and giant waves in the Southern Ocean. Gleistein Ropes has equipped Neutrogena with lines made with Dyneema, the world’s strongest fiber™, ensuring the highly renowned and experienced Skippers, Guillermo Altadill and José Muñoz, will successfully deal with the extreme challenges they will face with confidence. The Neutrogena Sailing Team has been making excellent progress throughout the race, holding a solid second position for much of the race so far.
Gleistein has exclusively used Dyneema fibers for its ropes for many years. Boasting greater strength, reliability and longer life than fibers from other HMPE (high modulus polyethylene) providers, Dyneema fibers deliver substantial advantages for all-round performance and perfectly complement Gleistein’s advanced manufacturing processes and state-of-the-art finishing technologies. “We are committed to providing the best rope solutions available and thereby only work with Dyneema fibers to manufacture our high quality HMPE ropes. Among the Gleistein Ropes premium lines on board of Neutrogena are TaperTwin halyards and RunnerTwin sheets both made with the latest Dyneema fiber innovation, SK99. Dyneema SK99 offers the highest tenacity of any lightweight polymer fiber, and increased modulus performance. Never before has so much performance been available in such a compact, lightweight and easy to handle form,” says Dr. Heide Giese-Bothe, Market Manager at Gleistein Ropes. Linda Rutten, Marketing Manager at DSM Dyneema adds: “Our dedication to quality is extreme – so it is more than fitting that Neutrogena is equipped with lines made of Dyneema throughout one of the world’s most extreme offshore yachting races.”
Part of the IMOCA Ocean Masters World Championships, the Barcelona World Race is a genuine benchmark for extreme ocean sailing. It is the only double handed, unassisted race around the world. The Barcelona to Barcelona course runs via the Cape of Good Hope off the South African coast, Cape Leeuwin south of Australia and the infamous Cape Horn at the most southern tip of South America.
