Virgin Atlantic has announced it is to start employing lightweight air cargo nets made with Dyneema® as part of its goal of reducing its aircraft CO2 emissions by 30% by 2020.

In a press release (below), the airline says it has ordered an initial 600 nets. Weighing 9kg each, the nets are 4kg lighter than the traditional cargo net used to secure shipments on pallets. The nets are also designed to be highly durable and have a five-year operating life compared to an average of 2-3 years for conventional nets.
