DSM to operate on 40% renewable electricity in the U.S. thanks to new wind power agreement with NextEra
DSM is a member of RE100, a collaborative, global initiative uniting companies committed to 100% renewable power and as a major addition to its commitment to global renewable electricity, DSM has agreed to source a total of 128,000 MW-hours a year from a new wind farm to be built by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources in Minco, Oklahoma. The 128,000 MW DSM obligation from the proposed Minco IV Wind Energy Center, which is expected to be commissioned in 2019, will power the equivalent of 14,000 homes in the US annually. The contracted offtake by DSM represents approximately 13% of its annual electricity purchased globally and removes CO2 emissions from electricity generated by fossil fuels by more than 90,000 metric tons annually.
“At DSM, sustainability is our core value. We are always exploring new ways to do better for people and the planet. DSM is proud to partner with NextEra Energy Resources to bring more renewable electricity to the U.S. national grid and increasingly power our business in a way that creates brighter living for people today and generations to come,” said Hugh Welsh, President DSM North America.
