DSM’s green factor wins UN SDGs category at Sustainable Business Awards Singapore 2019
The Sustainable Business Awards are held each year and is the region’s leading sustainability awards, a showcase of sustainable business best practices and recognizing the most impactful and green solutions from organizations around the Asia-Pacific region. The accolade recognizes DSM’s efforts in not only integrating the UN SDGs into the overall business strategy but also actively contributing to them.
The win recognizes DSM’s commitment to enact change and focus on connecting purpose, strategy and culture that will create solutions to help improve the lives of people in Asia and around the world. With an intrinsic link to five of the UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing the challenges of Nutrition & Health, Climate & Energy and Resources & Circularity, DSM has used these SDGs to shape business and innovation strategies to drive growth opportunities.

“Malnutrition is one of our biggest challenges in Asia-Pacific, with more than half of the world’s malnourished children living in the region. At DSM, our goal is to provide nutritional solutions for the food and beverage, dietary supplements and early-life and clinical nutrition markets, working closely with industry partners to develop new solutions and products within the food industry,” added Celestine.
“In Singapore, our Innovation Application Centre is responsible for aiding the innovation and acceleration of localized nutritional solutions for the market and it is through these co-created projects that we hope to see even more of an advancement in the nutrition segment.”
“From a resources perspective, we’ve also made strides in the adoption of the concept of a circular economy, aligned to SDG12. One example of this is Akulon® Repurposed, a resin made from discarded and recycled fishing nets to create a material to make key surfboard components.”
The SBA Singapore 2019 organising committee included Global Initiatives, PWC and a National Advisory Panel who commended DSM for their efforts: "DSM is a leading example of a company that has been able to align their business strategy and objectives with the SDGs to drive real societal impact that also delivers on their business goals, working with the right people and partners to make a meaningful contribution to achieving the SDGs.”
