After stepping down from the United Nations, he continued to work tirelessly in the cause of peace through his chairmanship of the Kofi Annan Foundation and as chair of The Elders, the group founded by Nelson Mandela.

Kofi Annan was also a close friend of Royal DSM. He was instrumental in DSM’s cooperation with the UN and the WFP and he was a big supporter of Africa Improved Foods. Together with Ban Ki-moon, Christiana Figueres and Feike Sijbesma, he served as Climate Leader for the World Bank Group, combatting the adverse impact of climate change and supporting a price on carbon.

He was a great man, elegant and soft in speaking, firm in his beliefs and actions. We all will miss him, his contribution, personality and humor”, says Feike Sijbesma, CEO Royal DSM.
