That’s why, over the past few years, DSM has become a trusted innovation partner of Team Sunweb – and why we’ll be their partner until at least 2021. Our science-based solutions offer riders enhanced protection, improved recovery and, ultimately, superior performance. Because when you’re facing the final climb at Alpe D’Huez, Passo dello Stelvio, or Alto de l’Angliru, it’s the small things that will make all the difference.

Science fuels success

In 2019, Team Sunweb will be tackling a series of high-profile events on the UCI World Tour, including the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Tour de Guanghxhi. The team’s riders will be making the most of a range of DSM-based solutions to both protect them from potential accidents and enable them to recover better from the challenges of professional cycling.

Team Sunweb will be wearing protective shorts reinforced with Dyneema® and provided with nutraceuticals Fruitflow® and PeptoPro® to aid post-race recovery.

Protecting the body where it matters most

Dyneema® crash protection

While helmets play a crucial role in preventing severe injury, many riders still suffer from cuts, scrapes and road rash to other parts of their body. In competitive cycling, even relatively minor injuries can impact performance and post-race recovery.

Bib shorts

Standard-issue protective clothing or padding can slow down and overheat the rider, compromising performance. So, drawing on their deep expertise in protective workwear, DSM’s innovators came up with a new solution: a lightweight, breathable protective fabric incorporating high-strength Dyneema® fibers. Over four years, protective fabric panels reinforced with Dyneema were used in the bib shorts worn by professional cycling team Team Sunweb, to protect the riders’ lower body in the event of crashes.

Baselayer

Based on the bib short's success, DSM’s innovators set themselves the new challenge of developing a lightweight baselayer worn underneath clothing to protect the torso and upper body. The specially designed layer was officially put into practice at the 2019 Tour de France.

With the use of cycle helmets increasing as a key safety feature worldwide, it is now time to start pushing the boundaries of overall body protection. The baselayer made with Dyneema is a perfect combination of comfort, performance and safety: now that’s what we call a victory!

PeptoPro®

PeptoPro® is an established brand in the world of sports nutrition. PeptoPro is a highly advanced peptide formulation derived from dairy protein. Containing all 20 amino acids needed for muscle protein synthesis, these molecules are so small, they need no digestion and can be absorbed quickly by the body for instant delivery to the muscle.

Fruitflow®
