I am currently working on...

The development of IP-free, cost-effective routes for generic statin drugs. We’re also working on the development of material additives, vitamin intermediates and flavor compounds that are synthesized with biocatalysis. Finally, another project that we’re involved with is process intensification through flow reactor applications.

The aspect of my work that excites and inspires me the most is...

Working in multi-disciplinary teams, applying new technologies from lab scale to pilot scale and, finally, to full production - a truly rewarding experience. It is also inspiring to see how we can apply our work in chemistry and (bio)-catalysis to a wide range of fields, from materials to vitamins, and all the way through to biomedical applications. Also, developing new sustainable routes to small molecules is always exciting.

The breakthrough I would most like to see made in my field is...

The speeding up of the screening, development and implementation processes for biocatalysis, so that they reach the speed of chemical catalyst development.
