INSIDE / INSIDE is the independent tool for a sustainable interior
In view of our future, we also change the demands we have for our interiors. We are becoming increasingly critical and selective in our search for the most beautiful, innovative materials and products. Circularity is key. Re-use, recycling, renewable raw materials, and materials are indispensable. With the launch of INSIDE / INSIDE, guidelines, laws and labels get in place.
INSIDE / INSIDE is an objective online platform where the sustainability rating of interior materials and products can be viewed and compared. Users will be able to see how sustainable, circular and healthy an interior is, based on an objective Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Interior architects, facility employees, building developers and consumers can select interior products and materials and compare them on the environmental impact. While comparing products it is possible to create a mood board of interior products and check the detailed information of the products that have been selected for the interior. The INSIDE / INSIDE interior product will help users to make sustainable design decisions based on objective and verified environmental data.
The Dutch Green Building Council, NIBE and Ex Interiors initiated INSIDE / INSIDE to make sustainability of interiors measurable and comparable. Building interiors are renewed regularly and have a high impact on both the environment and the health and well-being of building users. INSIDE / INSIDE will generate input for (governmental) tenders and certification standards to measure and regulate this impact. DSM’s Decovery® is one of the six founding partners whom supported the development of the platform.

But when these wooden products are finished with chemical coatings or paints it affects the environmental impact, while the reusability and toxicity will degrade. Furthermore, at the end of life it will not be possible to give the product 'back to nature'. Therefore I support the development of Decovery® as it helps to diminish the impact on the environment, but also benefits the health impact for the user inside a building.”
