People of DSM Engineering Materials: Mike Guetling
Mike Guetling, senior technical service engineer for DSM Engineering Materials, talks about his role at DSM and discuss the importance of continuing education.
We recently sat down with Sanjay Singh, application development manager (ADM), India, at DSM to learn more about his role at DSM Engineering Materials.
In January 2011, I joined DSM as an account manager for North & East India.Since then, I have been in multiple roles, such as growth program manager automotive, territory manager and now ADM, managing and supporting a team for application and business development.
In my current role as ADM, I contribute towards business growth and act as a bridge between account managers and customers. I translate marketing strategies by acting as a linchpin to the India R&T, JSP team.
I am a mechanical engineer by profession with post-graduation in plastics engineering from CIPET, Ahmedabad. I also have an MBA from Apeejay School of Management, New Delhi, India.
I have worked in multiple external roles where I have had the opportunity to interact with people who like to challenge conventional ways of working and are looking for new solutions for their products. Internally, I have an opportunity to connect with people who are caring and always have people’s safety, plus sustainability as priorities.
With a broad portfolio in which we cater to most industry segments, I get a diverse range of queries and discussion points to address. It’s always encouraging to work with multiple stakeholders and commercialize projects with its best performance.
My most memorable experience was in 2015, during an Asia Pacific PTO meeting—I was awarded for best project management. As its theme, I have always been passionate about growth. Apart from this, being part of the COVID volunteer team was also memorable because I felt privileged talking to people whom I never talked to before.
Sometimes your neighbors are an inspiration for your career path, and that is the case with me. After my graduation, my friend’s older brother became an inspiration, as he was working at a materials related company. I decided to follow his path. I began my career from various manufacturing roles at an Indian company to application development specialist at GE Plastics (now Sabic Innovative Plastics). Interacting with people has always inspired me to look for some new business opportunities.
