Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction solutions

Enabling a low-carbon economy

Enabling our customers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions

To be a leader in climate action, we aim to lead by example and enable others to reduce their emissions too. In particular, we are reducing the carbon footprint of our products by shifting to renewable electricity, improving our own energy efficiency, and by reducing the carbon footprint of our raw materials  for example, by introducing bio- and recycled based feedstocks.

What’s more, to understand and measure the impact of our products, we undertake a range of life cycle assessments. Specifically, we are determining the environmental and/or social performance of our products by using Environmental Life Cycle Analysis  which comply with the principles and guidelines set out in ISO 14040/14044 and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s guideline ‘Life Cycle Metrics for Chemical Products’.

Shifting to renewable electricity

Continuing to increase sourcing of electricity from  renewable sources; DSM is committed to have over 100% of our purchased electricity come from renewable sources by 2025.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction solutions

Working with our suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of our raw materials, such as through our CO2REDUCE program.

Introducing circular solution alternatives

Introducing bio- and/or recycled-based alternatives for our entire existing portfolio by 2030.

Biobased engineering plastic EcoPaXX®

EcoPaXX is a high-performance aliphatic, biobased polyamide that uniquely balances the benefits of typical short and long chain polyamides, such as low moisture uptake and high mechanical performance. It’s an ideal candidate when performance, aesthetics and sustainability come together.

Akulon® RePurposed made from recycled fishing nets

DSM uses discarded fishing nets as the source to produce the recycle-based polyamide Akulon RePurposed. We use the material recovered from the fishing nets collected along the coastlines of India.

We halve the carbon footprint of Akulon® PA6

DSM Engineering Materials will offer its existing Akulon® PA6 portfolio produced in Europe with a significantly reduced carbon footprint by the beginning of 2021, thus offering the lowest carbon footprint of PA6 available in the market.
