EcoPaXX belongs to the family of long-chain polyamides and offers all their traditional advantages including low moisture absorption and excellent chemical resistance. However, it also offers a high melting point - in fact the highest of all bio-based polyamides (up to 250ºC).


EcoPaXX®: Hot properties

EcoPaXX® surpasses other green polyamides thanks to a far higher melting point, great stiffness and strength plus chemical resistance – coupled with fast injection molding cycles and a large processing window which help drive increased productivity.

EcoPaXX is 70% bio-based and 100% carbon neutral: It outperforms both PA6 and PA66 because of its superior moisture absorption, better dimensional stability and stiffness (including retention after conditioning) and outstanding resistance to hydrolysis and chemicals like oils, greases and salts.

Thermal properties

EcoPaXX has a high melting point of 250°C, providing excellent short and long-term heat resistance - which make it ideal for lighting and Under the Hood applications; as well as extrusion thanks to its stable performance in the melt.

Short term, EcoPaXX has the highest HDT values of all bio-based aliphatic engineering plastics, combined with excellent surface quality and high thermal resistance. Long term the material shows excellent heat-ageing (on a par with PA6 at medium temperatures 150-180 °C).

From a processing standpoint, the high melting point and high crystallization rate of EcoPaXX mean quick injection-molding cycles, enabling you to optimize your productivity with faster throughput; and it also offers a broad processing window for flexibility on the production floor.

Chemical resistance

At ambient temperatures and even elevated temperatures, EcoPaXX grades resist everything from aliphatic hydrocarbons — to automotive liquids like coolants, fuels, oil and grease — to dilute acids, bases and detergents; to aqueous salt solutions such as calcium-and-zinc chloride.

In short, EcoPaXX is like most polyamides in delivering very good chemical resistance , in large part because of its semi-crystalline morphology. However, when exposing any material to serious chemicals we recommend testing under actual operating conditions. Mechanical properties

Unlike other bio-based aliphatic polyamides, EcoPaXX delivers high mechanical performance similar to PA6, PA66 and even PA46. For reinforced grades, EcoPaXX also has the best combination of stiffness and elongation at break/ductility.

The material has far lower moisture absorption than PA6, PA66 and PA46, which equates to superior retention of stiffness and strength after conditioning; and in impact resistance tests, EcoPaXX performs at least as well as PA6 or PA66.

Its low rate of water vapor transmission and fuel permeability combine with very high puncture resistance to create good barrier films with transparency on par with PA6…but with less haze.

Flame retardancy

Electrical equipment is governed by strict regulatory and safety requirements: EcoPaXX grades meet these exacting standards through a range of flame-retardant grades (both unreinforced and glass-fiber reinforced) that meet V0 flammability and high glow-wire temperatures.

And they’re all halogen-free.

Dimensional stability

EcoPaXX grades offer excellent dimensional stability compared to other polyamides; perfect for applications where dimensional tolerances and both long-term physical and electrical property retention are critic
