ForTii® s a platform of high performance semi-aromatic polyamides (PPA) based on the unique “C4” diamine technology that enables best-in-class mechanical properties due to the optimized crystallization morphology.

In addition, ForTii offers you a unique balance of properties including excellent dimensional stability, compatibility with lead free reflow soldering, and the highest stiffness and mechanical strength at extreme temperatures. The ForTii platform offers products in two product groups:


ForTii is a PPA with high mechanical properties and good chemical resistance. The ForTii grades have a melting temperature of 325°C and a glass transition temperature of 125°C.


Key Properties:

  • Very high peak temperature resistance (HDT > 300°C)
  • Halogen free UL94 V-0 possible down to 0.2mm and CTI beyond 800°C
  • High mechanical properties below and above Tg
  • Good chemical resistance


ForTii® Ace

ForTii Ace is a high melting PPA with extreme mechanical properties and high chemical resistance. ForTii Ace grades have a melting temperature in the range of 320°C to 345°C and a glass transition temperature ranging from 135°C up to 160°C. ForTii Ace has the highest aromatic content (>50wt%) of all PPA’s.

ForTii in electronics & electrical

ForTii® is a breakthrough high temperature polyamide with halogen-free flame retardant grades with a longstanding track record in the Electronics & Electrical industry.

Because of its excellent compatibility with lead free surface mount technology - along with good dimensional stability - this halogen-free, flame-retardant material is highly suitable for many electronics applications. Its electrical properties offer the highest CTI level possible, which (coupled with dimension stability) make ForTii extremely well suited to highly demanding applications in the electronics & electrical industry.

ForTii in automotive electronics

With the move towards electrification the automotive industry is phasing a radical change.

The electrical-powertrain typically operates at high voltage with currents of several hundreds amperes. . As consequence, safety and reliability have never been as important as today. ForTii offers a multi-year track-record in those critical applications. DSM’s ForTii® T11 is a durable, high-strength material used for surface mount technology (SMT) connectors, cooling fan brackets, and high voltage connectors in automotive electrical systems. It provides the highest thermal shock resistance amongst all PPAs and is tested at CTI >800V.

ForTii in automotive structural parts and metal replacement

If you’re looking to unlock new design potential in automotive applications – boosting performance, cutting fuel emissions and reducing cost of ownership - then ForTii PA4T metal replacement (MX) portfolio is your number one choice. ForTii® Ace MX, with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of up to 160°C, this material offers linear and stable strength and stiffness at elevated temperatures in combination with excellent chemical resistance versus aggressive automotive fluids (e.g. water/glycol, road salt, acid, mineral oil, transmission oil).

ForTii in Food & drinking water contact

ForTii and ForTii Ace compounds with global drinking water certifications including KTW, NSF61, WRAS, ACS and EU and FDA food contact regulations. ForTii provides superior hydrolysis resistance and weldline strength compared to other PPAs, when in contact with hot, boiling water. 

ForTii in automotive thermal management

DSM’s semi-aromatic polyamide ForTii MX15HR is the perfect solution for automotive cooling components such as thermostat housings, valves and hose barbs. ForTii allows for optimum weight designs without limitation in mechanical performance, especially in the presence of moisture (water-glycol) if the material is exposed directly to the fluid. MX15HR is the only PPA that gives the optimum balance in sti­ffness, strength and impact resistance after exposure to coolant medium (water-glycol) over the lifetime.


Superior mechanical performance at elevated temperatures

The aromatic structure of ForTii combined with our unique C4 chemistry results in a polymer with a very high melting point of 325°C, complete with high stiffness across a wide temperature range. This in turn makes the heat distortion temperature for ForTii grades among the best in the industry.

Vs. Metal:

ForTii can replace metal at just 50% of the weight over a wide range of temperatures with no compromise on performance. With the highest stiffness to density ratio at elevated temperatures ForTii Ace brings the most critical metal replacement opportunities within reach.


PPA is already a well-known material in metal replacement. The base chemistry of our ForTii MX series adds additional performance vs. standard PPAs at temperatures above Tg. If you need best in class mechanical performance the ForTii Ace MX series is what you are looking for, with superior mechanical performance and chemical resistance. 

Vs. PA6 &PA66

PA6 and PA66 are versatile materials for metal replacement opportunities. When mechanics at elevated temperatures (up to 150°C) are needed or the influence of moisture at moderate temperatures should be limited DSM’s PPA ForTii portfolio. ForTii Ace with a Tg of 160°C, gives superior mechanical performance even after conditioning for example 85%RH at 85°C. This enables engineers to realize new metal replacement opportunities not possible with PA6, PA66 or standard PPA.


Reflow Soldering for Surface Mount Technology (SMT)

In the consumer market, there is a focus on producing smaller and lighter products with more functionality. The miniaturization of electromechanical components like connectors and sensors requires reflow soldering technologies since the contact pitch is so small. This causes a need for materials that can resist high temperatures up to 280°C.  ForTii solves this challenge thanks to its combination of high melt temperature (325°C) and low moisture absorption – all of which means that ForTii grades perform very well in SMT applications up to peak temperatures of 288°C. Deformation is minimal and ForTii makes it far easier for designers to predict the warpage.

DSM’s Fortii PPA portfolio offers a full range of reflow capable materials ranging from HB grades to flame retardant V0 grades with full UL listing. With V0 grades DSM ForTii ensures higher than JEDEC MSL 2 ratings on all connector and components designs. This implies one year shelf life without packaging. With HB grades Fortii and ForTii Ace can achieve the best moisture sensitivity level (MSL1) acc. IPC/JEDEC J-STD 020D for SMT. This implies unlimited shelf life without packaging. While offering the benefit of high mechanical and electrical performance of the PPA, DSM Fortii and ForTii Ace offer the blistering resistance almost as good as a LCP material.

Chemical resistance

Where ForTii MX1 - MX3 already bring on par chemical resistance to best-in-class PPA materials, DSM’s ForTii Ace portfolio adds an additional step-up in chemical performance. For highest chemical stability, DSM has developed a broad portfolio in ForTii Ace, which included injection mouldable grades in 30, 40 and 50% Glass Fiber. 


Vs. Metal

The excellent creep performance of ForTii Ace brings new metal replacement opportunities within reach. Whether you intend to convert your current metal design into plastic to achieve weight reduction up to 50% or you want to reduce cost by eliminating compression limiters or threaded inserts. ForTii Ace gives optimal creep performance over a wide range of temperatures.

Vs. PPA & PA66

Compared to PA66, DSM’s PPA ForTii brings a significant advantage in terms of creep performance. ForTii outperforms low-Tg PPA materials (eg PA6T/66) and can match high Tg competitor PPAs (eg PA6T/6I). The increased performance of ForTii Ace provides additional creep performance at elevated temperatures up to 150°C or even in presence of moisture at lower temperatures.

Vs. thermoset materials

Thermoset materials are known for their good chemical resistance as well as their stability under creep loading. With ForTii Ace we provide engineers the possibility to rethink their thermoset designs into thermoplastic material solutions. Robust processing of ForTii Ace brings better yield rates within reach, providing direct economic benefits.
