Our Stanyl® polyamide 46 has been successfully specified for a wide range of applications in the automotive industry for some 20 years. First and foremost it retains its mechanical properties at fierce temperatures of up to 230°C - long term. This is combined with stiffness at elevated temperatures, extended fatigue endurance and outstanding wear resistance, all of which make it a unique and compelling material.

Increasingly, automotive components need to perform at a high level - and at ever higher temperatures. Stanyl is fast becoming the material of choice for many automotive applications such as Under the Hood components because of its ability to outlast metal and other traditional materials.

In fact, Stanyl is proven to perform at temperatures over 230°C. It provides excellent resistance to wear, low friction and equally good abrasion resistance for moving parts – all of which makes it an ideal replacement for PPA, PA6T, PA9T and often PPS and LCP.

The higher the temperature, the tougher the environment, and the more vibration…the more value you get from the performance of Stanyl.

First high temperature polyamide for blow molded ducts

DSM launches Stanyl® Diablo OCD 2305 BM, the first high-temperature polyamide that is suitable for processing by extrusion-blow molding, while meeting all of the high-performance requirements for hot charge air ducts.

Automotive applications

So where and how is Stanyl used in automotive applications?

  • Air management & turbo system solutions that deliver high temperature resistance for inlet elbows, charge air ducts, charge air cooler end caps, exhaust gas valves, and fuel supply pumps;
  • Electrical applications including e-motor parts like magnetic actuators, torque motors, gears, sensors and connectors that drive reliability and productivity;
  • Chassis Suspension solutions for metal replacement in gasket carriers, top mounts, and window sleeves;
  • Lighting applications for lamp fittings, lamp sockets, and connectors based on reliable long-term performance at extreme temperatures with no outgassing;
  • Powertrain components that are lighter yet withstand high temperatures and consolidate parts – for example in timing systems, front end accessory drives, clutch systems, bearing and thrust washers;
  • Safety restraint systems and braking systems, where reliabiilty and impact performance are critical.
  • High efficiency Tandem bearings.
