Improving indoor air quality

DSM takes the issue of indoor air quality seriously. That’s why we are working with the wood industry to reduce formaldehyde emissions from engineered wood and laminating applications.

Increasingly, regulations and standards are mandating stricter requirements for formaldehyde emissions from furniture to lower the risk of adverse health affects. In home and office furniture, a significant source of these emissions is urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins, which are used in pressed wood products like particleboard, fiberboard, plywood and veneers.

DSM has developed a solution that decreases the formaldehyde emitted from wood veneered products like plywood to well below today’s requirements and closer to the levels emitted from natural wood. The solution is a formaldehyde-free resin used in wood veneer adhesives.

Working together with industry leaders, we’re also developing a formaldehyde-free adhesive solution for bonding paper foils to wood products, improving indoor air quality for living rooms, bedrooms and offices.
