DSM’s hyaluronic acid-booster SYN®-HYCAN wins innovation prize

The BSB European Innovation prize for cosmetics 2010 was awarded in Paris during the In-cosmetics exhibition. DSM Nutritional Products won the third prize with SYN®-HYCAN, in the category naturals/actives.

By boosting the production of hyaluronic acid in the dermis, SYN-HYCAN firms skin from the inside. SYN-HYCAN also increases decorin and lumican levels, two important proteins present in human skin which improve collagen fibers by making them thinner and stronger. The two modes of action of SYN-HYCAN work together to reduce wrinkle formation and skin sagging, the most visible signs of aging.

Scientific trials have provided convincing evidence of SYN-HYCAN’s efficacy in remodelling facial contours. When tested in normal human fibroblasts, SYN-HYCAN peptide was shown to increase skin-identical hyaluronic acid synthesis by a factor of 4, while also boosting production of decorin (+73%) and lumican (+66%). SYN-HYCAN also boosts hyaluronic acid production in keratinocytes of the epidermis, which leads to a nice 'moisturizing from within' effect.

The moisturizing ingredient hyaluronic acid, like our HYASOL BT, benefits from very high consumer awareness. SYN-HYCAN helps our customers to develop many new applications for hyaluronic acid and develop new marketing strategies.” says Dr. Goede Schueler, Senior Business Development Manager for Skin Care, DSM Nutritional Products. “Many customers like the versatility of the product and its superior performance in stimulating hyaluronic acid biosynthesis.”

SYN-HYCAN comes in a glycerin-based aqueous solution, safe for cosmetic use and easy to formulate. It can be used in firming treatments, facial contour and remodelling creams, anti-sagging treatments, moisturizing (from within) lotions, anti-aging (filling wrinkles from within) solutions and anti-cellulite gels.
