Properties of Akulon for extrusion
As the range of applications for extruded film grows, so too does the requirement for high quality materials. Product consistency is crucial (viscocity and moisture content) along with the need to reduce the amount of gels, oligomers, and general additives - particularly for film that comes into contact with food.
The barrier properties of extruded film are important because of aging (increased shelf life) and keeping the flavors over time. Many factors influence permeability in film, from thickness and density to temperature and humidity – as well as polarity (polar polymers have a high oxygen barrier and low Water Vapor Transmission Rate).
As you can see from the diagram below, Akulon polyamide 6 provides an excellent oxygen barrier for film applications compared to a range of other materials. In food applications the material enables you to maintain the flavor of food while controlling the oxygen flow.
Akulon is tough yet flexible, offering outstanding mechanical strength, puncture resistance, abrasion resistance and elongation for extrusion applications.
