Data communication and power cables

Whether bringing broadband to the home or power to offshore equipment, resilient and reliable data and power cables play a crucial role in modern infrastructure the world over.

From connecting power grids and distribution systems, using tether cables, or bringing fiber-optic communication cables to homes and businesses, many industries now recognize the value of selecting cable solutions being lighter, thinner, and showing significantly improved fatigue characteristics.

It’s because of these high demands that Dyneema® - the world’s strongest fiber™, provides a better solution than aramids for your cables, due to its highest strength for lowest weight, its robustness and its easy processability.

Why choose Dyneema®?

Data communication and power cables with Dyneema® have unbeaten strength for the lowest weight, with exceptional fatigue, and chemical resistance – making it the superior choice for today’s and tomorrow’s requirements.

  • Twice as light and twice as thin for equal strength – enabling twice the cable running length for same yarn bobbin weight compared to aramid
  • Excellent tension/flex fatigue performance
  • Water repellent and excellent chemical resistance
  • So light it floats on water

Enabling more data throughput
Space and weight saving design helps enable more data throughput in less space

Less weight
Twice as light and twice as thin as aramid for equal strength – perfect for floating or flying cables

Better cable protection
Up to twice as strong as aramid fibers, with chemical, cut, and abrasion resistance to withstand extreme conditions

Better service life
More than twice the service life compared to aramid fiber-based solutions.

Easy to process

Dyneema® fiber can be easy processed into power and data communication cables and umbilicals, whether it’s in various textile forms, via hot overmoulding (even though its melting temperature is lower than aramid) or extrusion coating.

  • Dyneema® can be braided, knitted, helically wrapped by conventional textile machinery
  • Dyneema® fiber can be overmoulded/extrusion coated with polymer masses (e.g. VLDPE, LDPE, HDPE, MD-E, TPE, and TPU) with mass temperatures exceeding the melting temperature of Dyneema®
